It was nicknamed the “Fight of the Century.” This was Muhammad Ali’s bout with Joe Frazier in the year 1971, in which Frazier went on to win for a combined heavyweight title.
The gloves that Ali wore and the jockstrap worn by Frazier during the fight, hit the auction on Monday.
The jockstrap is expected to sell for as much as $ 10,000 and had already met the minimum bid of $ 5,000 by mid -Monday morning.
For Ali’s gloves, no bid had yet been received but according to the owner of the auction firm, they may fetch more than $1 million.
Both fighters were undefeated when they met up in the fight on March 8, 1971, at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Frazier defeated Ali in a unanimous, 15-round decision.
The auction concludes with live bidding on August 4.
